SECOND MEETING BETWEEN UNICONGO AND THE TASK FORCE ON COVID-19

At the request of the President of the Task-Force, a meeting was initiated with Unicongo on Saturday April 24, at the Hotel Elaïs in Pointe-Noire. Its objective was to address the Union's concerns and suggestions regarding the business climate and the revival of the economy.

The opportunity for the Unicongo delegation, composed of heads of affiliated companiesto recall that since the last working meeting (in May 2020), there had been no no significant progressor even signals from the government on the points raised. And that in the face of the generalized agony of the private sector, a strong signal from the State, expressing its support in the face of the difficult context, was expected.

The exchanges focused on 5 prerequisites for the improvement of the business climate and the survival of the private sectorpreviously identified by Unicongo:

  1. The deterioration of the financial system linked to the new exchange regulations of the BEAC;
  2. Investment and investor protection;
  3. The multiplicity and overlapping of administrative controls ;
  4. Simplification of administrative procedures: tightening of taxation and parafiscality
  5. The treatment of domestic commercial and fiscal public debt.

During the exchanges, the Vice President of the Union made a point of specifying that the problems stated were not accusations against the Government, but a call to act quickly to ensure the sustainability of businesses. Unicongo wants to be a partner of the Governmentand being ready to accompany it in order to find viable solutions which will ensure the continuity of the Congolese economy.

The meeting ended with the words of the Chairman of the Task Force. After responding to each of the points raised, he urged all parties to to work in collaboration in order to quickly find solutions allowing the revival of the economy and the improvement of the business climate
