PREPARATION OF THE 5TH EDITION OF THE INVESTMENT FORUM IN AFRICA

Unicongo received a Chinese delegation on May 16, 2019within the framework of the preparation of the 5th edition of the Africa Investment Forumcommonly called China-Africa Forum, which will be organized in Brazzaville from 10 to 12 September 2019. The two previous editions of this forum were held in Dakar and Addis Ababa.

The Chinese delegation was accompanied by the resident representative of the World Bank in the Republic of Congo, the latter being the main partner in the organization of this forum since its first edition.

The representative of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for Central Africa also participated in this meeting. A ten members of Unicongo took part in the meeting in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire by videoconference.

The forum will have 5 panels:

  1. human capital development ;
  2. digital economy;
  3. public-private partnership ;
  4. industrialization and global value chains;
  5. renewable energies. 

Unicongo members, business leaders from different sectors are invited to participate in these panels.

The Chinese delegation also announced thatChina has created an investment fund for the benefit of African countrieswhich has already granted a line of credit to the BDEAC for the financing of economic projects in Central Africa. This fund also grants lines of credit to African commercial banks, for the financing of private sector projects financing private sector projects, especially SMEs.

In their interventions, the members of Unicongo deplored the ignorance of the Congolese economic fabric by the Chinese companieswho only work among themselves, totally ignoring the Congolese companies that could be their suppliers. The Congolese companies members of Unicongo are willing to develop partnerships with Chinese companies operating in Congo.

The Chinese delegation informed Unicongo members that there is an association of Chinese companies based in Congo that Unicongo can approach to create collaborative relationships.

At the end of the meeting, the president of Unicongo reassured the Chinese delegation of the willingness of Unicongo members to develop partnerships with Chinese companies already established in Congoand with those who will come to participate in the forumThe list and sectors of activity will be communicated by the Chinese side to the Congolese side by the end of June 2019.
