UNICONGO HELD ITS 60TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Created in August 1958, a few months before the proclamation of the Republic of Congo on November 28, 1958, Unicongo held its ordinary general assembly on November 21, 2018 at the Hotel Pefaco Maya-Maya. 205 members and associate members attended, as well as a dozen guests representing administrations, diplomatic missions and international organizations.

The moral report of the President of Unicongo and all the federation reports for the year 2018 confirmed the difficult economic and financial situation in Congo since 2014. This situation continues to have a serious impact on the private sector, with declines in sales of 50% and moreand closures of many companies and its corollary of staff layoffsa collapse of investments and domestic demand. The general assembly recognized that the recovery of the situation of the private sector remains suspended to the signature of an agreement between the Congo and the IMF, which could allow, among other things, to clear the domestic debt of the State towards the companies, but also reforms essential to the cleaning of the business climate today very unfavorable to the private investment.

The general assembly finally voted the to extend by one year the 3-year mandate of all the organs of the Union, at the end of six years of mandate, in the absence of a new candidate having proposed a program for the next three years of the Union. Thus, the office of the Board of Directors made up of Mr. Christian BARROS, Mr. Alphonse MISSENGUI and Mr. Prosper BIZITOU, respectively President, Vice-President and Treasurer was renewed for one year, as well as all the offices of federations and the persons in charge of the thematic commissions
